EarthSpirit celebrated July's full moon with a World Drumming Festival! We welcomed drummers and belly dancers who treated us to the rhythms and movements of African, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and Native American Traditions. Four beautiful altars, set one at each direction and celebrating these four spiritual traditions, created our sacred space as we danced to the drums inside and booming of the thunder outside. The storm added to the atmosphere of the evening! After watching the beautiful movements of bellydancing for a little while, everyone was invited to get up and try the liberating experience themselves. African healing dance imitates animals and the elements, like fire, air, and water, and we enjoyed mixing the different styles of dancing. Our thanks to Gurdave Dhiman, who led the drumming and to Jessica Kinzbach, who led the bellydancing. The next full moon will be held December 2, 2001 at 7 p.m. at St. John's. Need directions? |
